Latest Devotional: Psalm 40:9-10

Pastor Brian’s “Every So Often” Devotional

February 19th, 2016

(Psalm 40:9-10)  I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness
In the great assembly; Indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O Lord, You Yourself know. 10 I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation;I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth From the great assembly.

King David was not a priest.  Nor was he a prophet.  He had another calling and vocation entirely.  He was a leader of people, not only of believers, but of non-believers as well.  He was the king, tasked with protecting and leading all who were of Israel.

Yet reading this you would think he was a modern-day pastor!  He knows a deep and abiding relationship with God, and he is determined to tell others about it.  David proclaims good news, righteousness, God’s faithfulness, salvation, lovingkindness and truth.  He doesn’t just keep it to himself; he’s got to tell somebody!  This giant-slayer is intent to give anyone and everyone the opportunity to embrace the goodness of the God he knows and loves.

No matter what your calling, your vocation, your ministry…God wants to use you.  We all have a sphere of influence, an “assembly” of people to whom we can testify of the goodness of God.  Try this experiment: ask God to give you an opportunity to tell someone else of His love today.  Then ask also for strength to not shrink back in timidity when He does, because He most certainly will!
